So apparently I'm behind in the news. Last night I heard about some skirmish actor Mel Gibson had with the police and was reported as having made anti-semitic remarks. He has since apologized profusely- even offering to meet with Jewish leaders to work out a plan to remedy his behavior.
You know what I say? BOO Frickin' HOO! Now I don't consider myself a bigot. I have family of many ethnic and religious backgrounds. However, I consider myself to be a Christian (not a perfect one because there's no such thing). I do not agree with gay rights, I agree that women should have a choice in whether they can get an abortion (but govern myself as pro-life). I think women are just as good as men yet a man should lead the household because it is a biblical stewardship.
I have many opinions and because we live in the land of opportunity- and free speech (opinions) I can live how I choose and i'm ok with that. It's enough to have that freedom of choice for myself. I don't think I need to or should inpose my personal beliefs on anyone else. I can share my views. I can try to persuade people, but in the end I must repsect their decisions.
Without rambling in too much, why is it that modern America feels the need to inpose it's beliefs on everyone? If someone erects a Christian statue or monument of the 10 commandments, or if it's been there for a hundred years without a problem, don't look at it. If you don't like it- TOUGH!
I'm not going around bombing, egging, throwing paint on anyone because I don't agree with their choices or beliefs. Sure I may disagree strongly with some people's lifestyle choices but tey have to be grown up enough to accept the good and bad effects of those choices.
More and more I see people making questionable choices in lifestyle and blaming any adverse effect from those choices on someone or something else. Our society is a society of victimization.
I play with fire, I expect ot get burned. Several people play with fire and expect everyone but them to get burned and when they do feel a little heat, they whine and cry until someone takes the blame for them or sweeps the consequences under the rug.
So one atheist doesn't like a monument that hundreds of people do- one beats many? One christian makes an anti-semitic comment- suddenly they're equated woth Adolf Hitler? One muslim extremist decides to blow himself up and take a few people with him and suddenly all muslims are love haters and mucst be eradicated?
STOP IT~!
I'm hardly the forst person to blog about this but when I hear stupid stories from tiny mistakes turned into national fiascos it just makes my blood boil. People are human. That's life. There are disappointments in life- deal with them. Own up to your choices. Don't expect someone to live your life for you. You are not the only person on this planet. There's about 6 billion more so life your life and if you don't agree with someone else's views- go somewhere else or agree to disagree.
I for one will continue to be a fan og Mel Gibson. I don't think he's an anti-semite. He's a human being who makes mistakes like the rest of us. He hadn't killed anyone and if you can't take a little name calling- well consider learning this phrase: "sticks and stone may break my bones but names can never hurt me"!
